Military hotel discounts, chain by chain

Updated 2026-09-04 · Free · No sign-up

Every chain we track, one table: does it run a military rate, do veterans qualify, and can you use it on vacation. Each cell is read from the chain's own published terms — "Not published" means the chain doesn't say, which is worth knowing before you argue at a front desk.

Three things that decide whether you actually get the discount

Your ID, not your booking. Booking engines let anyone select a military rate; the desk enforces it. CAC or DoD ID covers serving members and retirees; veterans need a VA Veteran ID Card or a veteran designation on a driver's license — chains that honor veterans say which they take, and the ones above marked "Not published" leave it to the property.

Leisure wording. A military rate that allows personal stays (most do — that's the point) is different from a government per-diem rate that may be official-travel-only. If you're active-duty on orders, price both: per-diem rates can beat the military discount in per-diem markets.

Availability. These are capacity-controlled rates — a property can simply not offer them on your dates. That isn't the desk being difficult; it's how the programs work. Book early in PCS season.

FAQ

Which hotel chains give military discounts?

Most major chains publish either a dedicated military rate or a government rate that covers military travelers — the table on this page lists every chain we track with its exact policy and source. The differences that matter are veteran eligibility and whether leisure stays qualify.

Do hotel military discounts work for veterans, or only active duty?

It genuinely differs by chain — some include veterans explicitly, some cover only serving members and retirees, and several don't say. The Veterans column above shows each chain's published position; 'Not published' means the property decides.

Can I use a military hotel discount on vacation?

Usually yes — military rates are typically leisure-friendly, unlike government per-diem rates which can be official-travel-only. The leisure column above shows what each chain's terms actually say.

What ID do hotels accept for military rates?

Serving members and retirees: CAC or DoD ID. Veterans: a VA Veteran ID Card (VIC) or a veteran designation on your driver's license, where the chain honors veterans at all. Bring physical ID — a booking confirmation is not proof of eligibility.

Is the military rate always the best deal?

No — it's typically a solid discount off flexible rates, but advance-purchase, AAA or the government per-diem rate (if you qualify) can price lower. Check the military rate against the others before booking.
